RABBIT TRACKS

The trees are heavy down with snow.
So only those with snowshoes go.

I know they are around me as I go.
For they leave their letters in the snow.

I rarely see them except at night.
When they are dodging owls in flight.

It almost seems to be tempting fate.
To do your frolicking so late.

When in our burrows we most hide.
Nature and it's sisters glide.

Owls are not the real danger.
Most often it is the forest ranger.

Nature parts like the red sea.
The tracks are all that's left for me.

It's odd you see them in this light.
Especially when it's white on white.

Maybe it's nothing to do with sight.
And more like the silent owls in flight.

Their shadow is all you see.
When moving from tree to tree.

Moon shadows are much more exciting.
They are everywhere with much less lighting.

So to see a ghost is not that frighting.
During the day that would be a sighting.
